A U.S. News and World Reports list the 2013 Hyundai Sonata is the most affordable midsize sedan. The Sonata faced stiff competition from a highly competitive segment class that features some of the best cars currently on the market. U.S. News based their ranking of the Hyundai Sonata Freeport on an analysis of 18 published reviews, test drives and an analysis of reliability and safety data. Great fuel economy, a modern styling and a spacious cabin nudged the Sonata to the top spot in the segment. The current generation Sonata has been on the market for two years meaning that the long list of features that once set this sedan apart from the crowd is quickly shrinking.
For 2013 the Hyundai TX Sonata boasts two engine choices a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that is good for 198 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that generates 274 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2013 Sonata is available in three trim levels the GLS, SE and Limited.
The base Sonata comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, a 60/40-split rear setback and cruise control. The GLS Hyundai Houston Sonata also features such niceties as keyless entry, full-power accessories, heated mirrors and a CD player with a six-speaker sound system, Bluetooth and satellite radio with iPod/USB interface. An optional Popular Equipment package is available. If you decide to add on this package you’ll receive alloy wheels, fog lights, heated front seats and an eight-way power driver seat, on top of the GLS’ standard features.
From there the long, luxurious features that come standard on the SE and Limited trims are an array of features that are optional on most other vehicles in the segment. Hyundai Sonata Freeport SE is a sporty trim coming with 18-inch wheels that are enveloped by performance tires, a dark chrome grille, a sport-tuned suspension in addition to leather/cloth upholstery. Going for the turbocharged SE adds on dual-zone automatic climate control and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The luxurious Limited comes standard with leather upholster and a softer suspension in addition to the standard features from the SE. Also standard are a sunroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and heated rear seats. There is also a turbocharged variant available that boasts dual exhaust tips and 18-inch wheels.
A pre-owned car is an affordable option, the only option, available for most people when looking to replace an older vehicle. As noted earlier the current 5th generation Hyundai TX Sonata was originally released in 2011 and has only received minimal changes since then. For 2012 the Sonata gained both BlueLink telematics service and a higher-resolution navigation system display. For 2011 and 2012 the base Sonata GLS trim was available with a manual transmission that was then cut from the 2013 model.
Stop by your Hyundai Houston dealership, Don Davis Hyundai, located at 214 W. Highway 332, Lake Jackson, TX 77566, to take the Sonata for a spin.
